Save a Sato
This past week I experienced a more unique kind of traffic jam. As I pulled onto the freeway outside of our house in San Juan, cars were at a standstill : The culprit? A scared, beaten and abandoned dog caught up in chains trying to escape the traffic.
Long story short, I instantly pulled over and brought the dog to our house. At first glance he was terribly skinny, his skin almost completely red and cut up, his paws burnt from the pavement and he was clearly was struggling to walk.
I have never personally seen a dog in such terrible shape. Despite his condition, he quickly entrusted my husband and I, and was eager for affection. For whatever reason, Enrique is the name that we keep using for this sweet pup that doesn't look more than 2 years old.
After taking him to the vet, we found out that he has a serious skin infection most likely from infested ticks, a fever, parasites and fleas. The vet also found that Enrique has a displaced femur, which explained why he could not lay down and barely walk.
After multiple attempts, no shelters were able to accept Enrique. There is a huuuge population of stray dogs, or "satos" in Puerto Rico, especially after Hurricane Maria, and shelters can only accept animals in manageable health.
Queue the tears after finding all of this information out. We can't bear the thought of ending this sweet dog's life without giving him a chance at life. We also can't bear the cost of the medications and necessary surgery alone.
To all the animal lovers, anyone wishing to contribute to the betterment of Puerto Rico, anyone with an extra few dollars, WE NEED YOUR HELP.
We are hoping to raise $1,000. This will cover the cost of Enrique's surgery.
We would be UNBELIEVABLY THANKFUL if you could help out in any way. $5,$10 or $20 will make all the difference in this dog's life.
With your help, we look forward to uploading a happy, healthy Enrique!
