Omulu Capoeira of MN NEW ACADEMY!

Donation protected
Capoeira. Cap - o - ay - ruh. You might have heard about it as sexy dance fighting from an episode of Bob's Burgers. Or seen it featured in the cheesy 90s film "Only the Strong". Or as Eddy Gordo from the video game Tekken.

You can be a part of the future of capoeira in your own community.

While these capoeira references in pop culture are familiar to some, hopefully you have been able to experience some capoeira firsthand, watching a video online, seeing a demonstration, a performance at Carnaval, or even coming to a class yourself. What you might not know is that it is a martial art hundreds of years old, comes from a culture of resistance of AfroBrazilians who escaped slavery, and has a language all its own.

Omulu Capoeira of Minnesota is part of the ongoing history of this art form. Omulu Capoeira of MN has the longest established Capoeira Academy in Minnesota and is affiliated with several chapters both nationally and internationally.. Our students, from age four to their fifties, carry on this important lineage through the songs, music, movements, and physical dialogue of capoeira. Our school is led nationally by Mestre Preguica who studied under the legendary father of modern capoeira, Mestre Bimba. He comes regularly for workshops and events to share his knowledge and wisdom to ensure this is not a dying art. Locally, under the leadership of Instructor Coruja and Monitora Vespa our school is growing to the point where we are doing so well we have outgrown our current facility!

If you are reading this, you likely know a student in our class, have seen our group perform, or have been curious to try yourself! Please help us to ensure this beautiful art form has a proper home as it grows in Minnesota and has the space it needs to continue and thrive. (And then come visit us for a class! Your muscles will thank you later.) We are working hard on a new space to accommodate our growing base of students, young and old, new and experienced, to offer classes to as many people as possible. Please consider making a contribution of anything from $5 to $50 or more to help cover the costs of new wood-laminate floor for our space and the cost of moving our current studio (mirrors, etc.).
