Help Us Save Zim's Leg

Donation protected
In June 2016 my fiancé and I were moving into our first place on our own. Everything was new and very exciting. We were looking forward to starting our lives together and starting our own traditions, My fiancé, myself and our dog Riley that my fiancé's grandparents and given him for Christmas. With our future ahead of us and looking bright, we started moving in.

It wasn’t long before a neighbor from down the street came along holding a puppy. The puppy was lost and she was trying to find his family. I have had a love of animals since I was a kid and am a member of several lost and found groups, so I offered to take him and attempt to find his owners or rehome him if need be.

Several months passed and no one came forward to claim him despite my best efforts. No one had shown even the slightest interest and there were no flyers posted anywhere around where I live advertising him as lost. Examination at the Veterinary clinic revealed no microchip, put his age at approximately 3 months and had not been neutered. He was barely old enough to leave his mother!

More time went by and all efforts to find his owners were rapidly running out. It didn’t really matter, though. He had already become family. His first night with us he crawled into the bed and snuggled against my stomach. Zim had found his forever home.

Zim and our first dog Riley got along wonderfully. Like they were born together. They are brothers. In the time we’ve had him, Zim has shown himself to be an extremely even tempered, loving, playful dog. Always eager to show love and appreciation at your return home no matter how long you’d been gone.

On November 4th, 2016, my friend was dog-watching Zim and Riley while I was at work. She had to run a quick errand and when she came home, found that someone had attempted to break into her home. In the process, this person, left the gate to the yard open and Riley, Zim and my friend's dog Opal, escaped.

When my friend returned home, she found all three dogs running in the street and Zim was favoring his left hind leg. He was unable to place any weight on it at all. My fiancé rushed home from work and we rushed him to the emergency Vet clinic in Reno.

The Doctors confirmed that his left hind leg was in fact broken and he had a torn ligament. He had almost certainly been hit by a car. A car going fairly fast, that just left. Zim had tags on stating his name and a phone number. Surgery is required to save his leg. There is no non-surgical option for a break/tear of this type. If the surgery is not performed soon, amputation will be our only remedy. It kills me to have to consider doing that. It’s like contemplating amputating my own leg.

I have talked to every family member, friend, charity and resource I can locate in Northern Nevada, none have panned out. This campaign is my last hope to save the leg of our furry family member. If we cannot reach our goal or $4500 within a few days, amputation will be the only option remaining. Even that most dreadful of options is still $3000. Zim’s leg will not heal properly on its own.

If you love dogs as we do, please consider helping us to save our friend's leg and spread the word to all dog lovers you know.

Thank you for your time.
