Our Story
Friends and family,
One of our good friends and neighbors, Officer Mike McGuire, is suffering a difficult medical crisis! I’ve set up this Go Fund Me as a small way to help Mike and his wife with the extensive medical expenses that are overwhelming. Please read a little about Mike’s journey.
Last summer Mike was diagnosed with tonsil cancer. This is a very aggressive form of cancer that is rarely found in the throat. They were advised that the best course of action would be a non surgical approach and treating the cancer with chemotherapy and radiation concurrently. As expected, these treatments made Mike terribly ill requiring multiple hospital stays and blood transfusions. He lost most of the functions of his throat resulting in his inability to take food and fluids by mouth and losing the functions of his saliva glands. By November, he completed all of his treatments and his body started to make a comeback. By January, he recovered enough functions of his throat to take food and fluids by mouth. At this point, life was slowly returning back to normal and he appeared to be reaching the end of his cancer journey.
In late January, Mike had a CT and PET scan and while Mike’s throat was completely clear, the PET scan found something in his subcarinal lymph node (mid chest between the lungs). The cancer from his throat had metastasized to his chest. Mike and his wife Kimberly were devastated along with their families. But they began investigating options immediately, which was an extremely stressful process.
By the grace of God, they were connected with a doctor at UF Health in Florida that has successfully operated on this type of cancer. Mike and Kimberly left a few days ago for Florida and for surgery. They will need to remain in Florida until he recovers and is able to travel back to Terre Haute.
Mike’s words, “I put my life in the hands of GOD and Dr. Herrera. Fight, Fight, Fight! Mike McGuire did not get diagnosed with Cancer. Cancer got diagnosed with Mike McGuire!” “He who is in me is greater than he who in the world” 1 John 4:4 “God is making a new witness of me! All glory to HIM!”
