 RAPID CITY, SD
On Saturday, October 24, 2015 at about 11:30 a.m. my husband's cousin, SD Highway Patrol trooper Zac Bader, was making a routine traffic stop when the three of the passengers callously and cowardly beat him, leaving him for dead on the side of the road.  He is in stable condition as of today, Sunday, October 25; however, he has a long road to recovery facing many surgeries and hospital stays to rebuild his jaw and heal the many fractures to his face/skull.  Any support is welcome, small or large, prayers or monetary. All donations will be given to the Bader family to help off set medical and daily living costs throughout his recovery.  Thank you for your support of this wonderful family.

Good morning everyone!

This is from the South Dakota Highway Patrol FaceBook page:

Highway Patrol, Trooper Bader Family Thank Public For Support
PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Highway Patrol officials and the family of Trooper Zachary Bader are thanking the public for its support after Bader was physically assaulted Saturday near Rapid City.

Bader, a 10-year veteran of the Patrol, sustained serious non-life threatening injuries while making a traffic stop. He remains hospitalized.

“It is not just the law enforcement community, but the general public that has responded with messages of support, financial donations and other acts of kindness." says Col. Craig Price, superintendent of the Highway Patrol.

The Bader family has also released the following statement:

“We would like to thank everyone for their well wishes, prayers and love for Zac and our family; we are forever indebted and grateful for the generosity, support and encouragement we are receiving from across the world. We have never felt alone during this time, and the strength and support of this community is overwhelming. As Zac's condition improves, we are inspired by his headstrong, positive attitude. His sense of humor remains intact -- even during these difficult times, he can make us smile!

Although this is very tragic for our family, it has brought to light a real problem our community and our nation face -- drugs and the ensuing abuse. We must continue to support what Zac, fellow Highway Patrolman and the men and women of law enforcement do as they protect our communities. These heroes continue to make our state one of the greatest places in the world to live, work and raise a family. Our law enforcement and first responders do their utmost to protect us and our families, not only through enforcement, but also by example - we salute their dedication. Our family is overwhelmed by everyone's kindness and will be forever grateful. Thank you.”

Col. Price says the Highway Patrol will continue to assist the family as needed. “We are in this together and we look forward to the day when Trooper Bader returns to duty,” says the Colonel.

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

Hello everyone!

Sorry I was MIA yesterday. I've got lots of thank yous to send, and I'm SO EXCITED about it. We have almost reached our goal, which is simply amazing.

I don't have an update specifically on Zac; however, I would like to share that the Rapid City Rush will be recognizing Zac as Hero of the Game at Saturday's game against the Alaska Aces. It's a 2:05 afternoon game Sat Oct 31st. All law enforcement get $5 off if you get your tickets from the Rush office. Please pass this info to your friends and let's pack the arena with Zac supporters!

Thank you all,
Megan

My husband and I are praying so hard for Officer Bader and all of his loved ones. We pray that God gives him strength and comfort throughout the long road ahead of him. We also pray for God to help his family stay strong and get through each day until he is fully recovered. We also pray that those responsible for doing this are charged and found guilty accordingly and receive the help they need to become better people and to feel true remorse for what they have done to an innocent man. Amen!! Sending lots of good vibes and lots of love to all of you!

Prayers for a speedy and full recovery. @Brandon I know when my husband got hurt at work that workman's comp only covers a percentage if what a person makes and is capped at a certain amount, so it wasn't even the full amount of the fraction that we received. It was very difficult for us to cover our bills at that time. Also it won't cover any missed work by the wife while she is by his side recovering. Just some more info.

This being a work related injury, doesn't workers comp take care of all medical bills and recovery related expenses? Even his income wouldn't be affected until his full recovery?

I heard about this travesty when visiting my native home and wanted to help. Service in law enforcement is a roller coaster ride of boredom to panic. Your service is greatly appreciated and I wish you and your family a rewarding and memorable future. God Bless.
