Darrell Puts the Cuffs on Cancer

This is my story.....
I was experiencing pain in my back. I assumed I had a pinched nerve in my back. I went to my doctor and she thought I needed an xray and an mri of my hip. The images revealed I had bone erosion of the pelvic bone and 4 masses on the right side of my pelvis. Unfortunately we found this out two days before our Disney world trip. We then met with the head of the orthopedic oncology department at Northwestern. He confirmed the cancer started in the bone and then spread to the right side of the pelvis. He ordered ct scans and bone scans. Luckily those tests came back clear meaning the cancer hasn't spread to any major organ or any other bone.
My biospy of the pelvis confirmed a very rare bone cancer called epitheliod angio sarcoma. So rare that there are only approximately 300 cases known world wide.
We met with a chemotherapy doctor Friday the 9th to discuss our treatment plan. I will have 1, 9 week round of chemotherapy. This will consist of 1 treatment every 3 weeks for a total of 3 treatments. This will begin on October 20th. After the 9 week chemotherapy session, I will be having major surgery in hopes the doctor can resect my bone. It is hopefull that I will walk again after surgery. I will then need 1 possibly 2 more 9 week rounds of chemo.
I am going tomorrow for an ecocardiogram to check the function of my heart. I will also be going one day this week to get a port installed for my treatments. This page will be used for updates along my journey. Thanks for your prayers.....
