Hornell Area Humane Soc Heating sys

We are reaching out to you to ask for your support and assistance. We have found ourselves in a critical condition when it comes to providing the basic care of our animals. Our existing heating system has partially failed and will continue to fail. We currently have in floor radiant heat which is the best heat for a facility like ours. Unfortunately when the system was installed in the 1990s the piping that was used was not PEX and it has dry rotted in the concrete. We currently have no heat in our dog kennels. It’s already chilly when the staff arrives in the morning.  We’re opening the doors from the offices to try to get some heat to the dogs at night but in a few weeks that won’t be enough.

We have reached out to heating specialists in the area. There is no possibility of repairing the existing tubing with out removing the entire concrete floor. We are faced with the only alternative of replacing our entire heating and ventilation system. The estimated cost for this work is up to $30,000.

 Many people think because we have ‘Humane Society’ in our name that we receive funding from the national or international humane society, but that isn’t the case.  Most of our revenue comes from fundraising events and donations. And right now donations are urgently needed to provide heat for a fast approaching winter.

Last year we made a commitment to be a bigger part of the communities we serve.  We have made improvements in housing our animals and their daily care. Grants and donations were secured to help fund the Jillian Andolina Community Dog Yard.  There’s so much more we’d like to do, but this is going to drastically impede those plans. It’s very frustrating.  Any donations right now, earmarked specifically for a new HVAC system to keep the dogs warm would be most appreciated.
