Holly’s Fight

Picture the scene.
8yr old playing and doing normal things a girl of her age does.
Mum and dad start to notice strange unexplainable bruises appearing all over her body.
The next day complaining she feels tired after a normal day at school.
Fast forward a couple of days the bruising is worsening..so a doctors appointment is made..
Holly's playing with our chihuahua and his claws mark our little girls upper thigh.
The next morning we find hollys little scratch has grown in size and so has our concern.
Talking things through we think the best choice of action is to go to bri a&e Saturday morning.
This was the 21-09-2019.
Later that same evening came the devastating news that they are 98%sure holly has leukemia.
Later that same evening into sunday morning my wife and holly took a blue light ambulance to the leeds childrens ward at the clarendon wing of the lgi.
Where sunday afternoon they confirmed leukemia type all was found in the blood.
The following day(Monday the chemotherapy treatment started with the first of many bone marrow biopsies(lumbar punctures). Plus testing the spinal fluid to see if the leukemia has spread.
Since the devastating news Holly's mum kelly hasnt left her side,being her security and her strength.
The unfortunate repercussions are that life keeps going.but your entire world stops dead.!!!!. As you struggle to cope with the changes that will be made.
Countless blood tests are taken usually every other day plus the constant drips containing,medicine,pain relief and nutrients the body requires hanging from various cannulas usually 3-4are in constant use.
The side effects are constant these include back,belly and leg pains/struggling to walk.with ulcers in the throat and mouth. Everything is painful in Holly's world and the last 2wks have been in isolation.
Every day is taken 1day at a time.
The continuous infection control on fungal and bacterial due to the body's inability to fight diseases that a normal child wouldn't be fazed with.
