Randy was beloved by all who knew or worked with him; those groups were analogous.
Annapolis Naval Cadet, master technician of the cinema, photographer, scuba diver, artist, writer — fiercely steadfast friend, husband and father. A Mensa member, capable of matching wits with an Oxford don, yet unabashedly ready to laugh like a little kid at a 3 Stooges film.
Over twenty five Hollywood feature film screen credits to his name, spanning multiple disciplines, yet ever-humble and the first to step up to learn something new — then teach it to a pal.
Randy had to manage calamitous back pain due to ruptured lumbar discs. THis ultimately required multiple surgeries to placement of titanium hardware in his spine. He didn’t complain. He studied the problem and probably knew more than most orthopedic physicians by the time it was done.
And then, in late 2013, Randy was diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma — cancer of the oral cavity. He chose to fight back with pioneering alternative therapies, rather than submit to the atrocious grueling surgeries. Again, Randy's immense power to focus his intellect brought him to an understanding and level of knowledge that the corporate western medicine machine refuses to accept — yet.
Randy never asked for anyone’s help while he was here. But now his friends and everyone touched by his humor, warmth and bravery have a chance to step forward and help his family clear his medical bills and expenses.
To help Randy's family clear these debts is fitting tribute to this truly great soul — this giant mensch.
