One of the struggles we all have to deal with is when our parents age, and time catches up to them. It is even harder when you are living abroad.
My dad has been battling diabetes, kidney failure, congestive heart failure and more for years with the most positive attitude imagineable. Three times a week he sits through hours of dialysis. He has gone through chemo treatment. He has hurt more than I can imagine, and through it all he has remained positive. Each struggle was just one obstacle to overcome. That is who he has always been.
For me this man, my dad, embodies all that is best in a father. I've watched him turn around to help someone broken down on the side of the road, because its the right thing to do. He taught me to tie a lure, and tie my shoe. My dad came from the generation that worked eighty hour weeks so his family could have the comforts they wanted. He also took a month off work every year to take his family on a cross country vacation. There are countless more things I could say about the man who taught me everything I should be. He was my greatest supporter, and I his biggest fan. He is the greatest man I know. If you know me, know the best of me is because of him.
I cannot imagine my world without him, but that is exactly what is going to happen. We have been given a very limited window. So I'd like to see my dad again before it closes.
Last minute airfare from Asia is not inexpensive, and any help is appreciated. If you do not fund me, that is fine. But please call the man and woman that brought you into this world and let them know what they mean to you. Let them know as often as you can.
