Yukon’s Emergency Vet Bills

Last night on August 21st, Marco and I’s rescue chihuahua, Yukon, escaped from the house and ran down the road. We searched for him and eventually found him being helped by some motorists that had seen him by the side of the road.
We initially thought that he had been in a fight with a cat or raccoon because he had a puncture wound on the top of his head and a laceration on the front of his face. We treated these injuries and figured he would be okay in the morning. He was acting normally and taking treats, just seemed a bit dazed.
This morning he started having seizures right around 7 AM. He had three seizures between then and around 8:00, when we arrived at the vet. The first vet’s office was full and so we drove him to the emergency vet as they suggested. He had another seizure on the way there.
The nurses and doctors believed that he was not in a fight but rather was clipped or hit by a passing car, and the head trauma that leads to seizures supports this.
He will likely have to stay in the hospital for at least 24 hours, but may have to stay later depending on how well his recovery goes.
The price is estimated to be between $1679 and $2150. Neither Marco nor I make very much money and though we have support from friends and family, we don’t want to overburden anyone. We have a lot of other living expenses related to moving coming up right now and didn’t expect something like this to happen. Yukon is always such a good boy and never bolts like he did last night.
