(PICTURE OF MAN BEING LIFTED OFF THE STREETS IN AN EFFORT TO TRANSPORT HIM TO THE HOSPITAL)       Dear Friends and Fellow Jamaicans,We are seeking your assistance in providing much needed ambulances, beds,medical equipment such as CT-SCANS etc. to donate to the hospitals  on the Caribbean island of Jamaica. (Join the conversation on Facebook  ! )

Help us send  ambulances,hospital beds,life saving medical resources,plus the opportunity create jobs for poor Jamaicans back home by making a small donation.

Remember, every little action counts so do your part in helping us reach our goal of $50,000. Your kind contribution of $5 $10,$20, $50, $100 or $500 can go a far way in making a difference in the lives of Jamaicans.

We can’t do it alone and we are counting on you to reach out your community: co-workers, family members, neighbors and church or community groups by sharing and encouraging them to support.

As the popular Jamaican saying goes, “One One Coco Full Basket” so help us make a difference. No contribution is too small.

The Reality of Inadequate Healthcare:

My family recently visited Jamaica after being away for a number of years. They were appalled by what they witnessed. The quality of healthcare in areas of poverty was horrific.

 Pictures do not lie! The truth is heartbreaking!
No hospital bed available for this patient.

Their experience in Jamaica has propelled me to take action and launch this campaign on GoFundMe. My hope is that these pictures and my call to action will attract enough support so that I can establish two not-for-profit organizations – one in the United States and the other in Jamaica to forge a two-pronged, cooperative funding approach to improving healthcare practices in Jamaica.

My fundraising goal is $50,000 – not very much considering the need, but it’s definitely a start. For those who may have some doubts about my credibility, please know that I will document how each dollar is spent in detail. ( For the first  phase,funds will be personally withdrawn to establish the Not for profits.)

I believe in transparency; I believe in accountability; and I believe in the generosity of caring donors.
This project will not happen overnight. It will be a 6-12 month process. But be assured – it WILL get done!

The bottom line is that far too many people back in Jamaica are being treated like road-kill. Their injured bodies are literally being scraped off the street by well-intended pedestrians in an effort to get them medical attention.  This is NOT the kind of medical care that the people of Jamaica deserve!

The Genesis of my Concern

One morning, my mother received the call that no one wants to hear –  one of her youngest nephews, Tino, had been struck by a car on the streets of Jamaica and left for dead. A cousin and an uncle phoned for help, but they were told no ambulances were available for that section of town. They gently loaded Tino’s crumbled body into his uncle’s car, but he died on the way to the hospital. He was barely 28 years old. A month later a talented vocalist singer would meet the same fate. She too had to be extracted from her car by pedestrians and transported to the hospital by a car.

With the ambulance shortages in Jamaica, such incidents are far too common! Medical equipment, supplies and resources are being strictly limited to designated parts of the island. Taken this to scale, it reminds me of how proper medical attention is still only to a small demographic of the Earth's population.

Another disturbing problem are the lack of resources for senior citizens,it is extremely difficult for them to get back and forth from their much needed doctors appointments.We would like to establish some means of decreasing those problems.
In the effort of improving Jamaica's healthcare system there would also be the opportunity to create much needed jobs!

Please note the following article by Kimberly Hibbert of the Jamaica Observer.
‘DUE to the shortage of ambulances at public hospitals, emergency processes are being delayed, an issue the Jamaica Observer has uncovered.’ Continue reading the article here .

This campaign holds the hope for a changed paradigm in Jamaican healthcare! And YOU are the key to its success!

Phase 1: Set Up A not for profit organization-This process takes 4-7 months. CPA’s and attorneys who specialize in nonprofit organizations routinely charge $2,500 – $5,000+ for preparation of IRS Form 1023 applications for small organizations.

Phase 2:  Work closely with the Jamaican government to put in place to put in place arrangements that would provide these services to underserved communties.Education/Training is critical step in this phase.Timeline- 8 to 12 months.

Phase 3:  Station ambulances on each coast of the island, with two service vehicles in Kingston's main hub, and the others split between sub-stations in Hanover and Clarendon so that there is better, more widespread coverage for emergency calls. The organizations will then disperse funds for the following purposes as needed:

§  Repair sidelined ambulances not currently in circulation to increase utilization

§  Disburse funds specifically to support medical resources in Jamaica

§  Partner with Kingston Public Hospital, Andrews Memorial Hospital, & Hargreaves Memorial Hospital to identify needs and current resources

In Due-Diligence to Transparency, We Will:

§  Regularly update the website with current, detailed program and evaluation information;

§  Post board and key staff members’ names, titles, and bios that highlight each person’s skills and contributions;

§  Post the annual report on the website;

§  Post any audited financial statements; and

§  Post the organization’s IRS letter of determination on the website.

Who is responsible for allocating the funds?
The not-for profit organization will hold responsibility for this function.

Why donate to us rather than other established agencies?
Our primary focus is improving Jamaica’s medical services by identifying impoverished neighborhoods in need of medical resources and network with potential service providers.

How will the not-for-profit be sustained?
It will be sustained through fundraising strategies appealing to individuals, foundations and corporations through grants, appeals, campaigns, and fundraising events.
