Support Edgar's Kidney Transplant

Donation protected

My name is Edgar Delpino and I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease two and a half years ago. Even though I changed my diet and worked hard to make positive life choices, my kidneys function continued to progressively decrease. Currently, my diagnosis is Terminal Kidney Disease (stage V) on a Peritoneal Dialysis. I am getting peritoneal dialysis daily to stay alive. At this point, the only way I can survive is by receiving a kidney transplant. The best survival rate is to have a live person who’d like to donate his/her kidney to me.

I’ve been fighting this illness for two and a half years. It has been really hard to deal with this: being a father of a 9 y/o boy, the head of my house, the only earning family member, trying to keep up at work. My illness has prevented me from being stable, struggling with pain, fatigue, weakness, and swollen feet, making it difficult for me to walk. I constantly have low-low hemoglobin with many blood transfusions in order to stay alive; and the hardest part of all this is to have to see my son grow-up at such an early age, trying to understand his father's illness and supporting me in a hospital when he should be playing with other children. Through all of this, both, my wife and my son, have been very supportive.

There is a friend, a Venezuelan citizen, who would like to donate one of his kidneys to me. He has already passed the first screening with Cleveland Clinic in Florida, the institution in charge of my transplant. The next step for him (us) is to come to the United States (Florida Cleveland Clinic) to have some blood work run in order to find out how compatible or matching we are. If we are a match then transplant surgery will occur. On the other hand, if we are not a match, his kidney would be donated to another person and I would have the priority of receiving a kidney from another compatible donor.

The cost of the kidney transplant is approximately $350,000. Even with insurance, there will be out of pocket deductibles to be met. I will also be responsible for covering the KIDNEY LIVING DONOR’S EXPENSES, including traveling, lodging, lost wages, travel costs of the caregivers, and the donor’s family care. Donating a kidney and being away from home, comes with costs.

I am facing an extreme medical expense that is depleting my savings. For the rest of my life, I will need to follow up visits to the doctor and daily anti-rejection medications that range from $2,000-$6,000 per month, which are crucial to my health and survival. Additionally, I will be out of work for at least 3-4 months while recovering.

Please, help my friend and me in our effort to receive the very best care possible. Your donation can help diminish the weight of financial burdens, medical expenses, protection and quality of life to our families; it will give us peace of mind and help us focus on a healthy recovery and life. You can make a big difference with a large or small donation.

Even a $5 donation adds up! If you cannot spare a donation, please share and spread the word. SHARE IT PLEASE.

Needless to say, your support is greatly appreciated during this tough time for my family and me. Any financial assistance that you can provide would be greatly appreciated more than we can adequately put into words.

I need to survive to keep supporting both my 9-year-old son and wife.

Our family thanks you in advance for your love, your prayers, and support.

Edgar Delpino.
