My significant other has Crohn's disease, so hospital visits are nothing new to the both of us. Very recently however, after a few rounds of antibiotics for what was thought to be a UTI, and then finally going to the ER after they failed to work, we were just recently made aware that he has diseased colon and large intestine, a stricture, multiple complex fistulas, and an opening in his bladder from an additional internal fistula forming. We had to follow through with surgery this time around because most of his colon had adhered to his bladder from scar tissue /inflation, and if the condition would have gotten any worse, it could have lead to sepsis. The surgery was meant to be laproscopic, but once they found out just how bad his condition was, they decided to do open surgery; this being his second go at 28 years old. He lost a significant amount of blood that required a transfusion, and then shortly after, his kidneys started to fail. Dialysis treatments, a two-week bladder catheter, as well as an endo tube have been required. We may be looking at an additional surgery for him if things don't progress soon. We are definitely going to have to start a biologic medication in the near future, and these are notoriously expensive.

As for me, I'm struggling to enter nursing school Fall semester 2019. I was recently diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis, a tilted uterus and cystocele. I had laproscopic surgery at the end of last semester and still managed a 4.0 GPA for all five classes. I am scheduled for open surgery that was planned in advance, before Ray's emergency surgery took place. I am looking at a very lengthy recovery and a portion of my procedure has been denied coverage at the last minute. We are still waiting on Short-Term Disability, and we have school entrance fees to worry about, daycare, medical debt, etc. all in addition to our normal bills.

We have had a few bumps in the road in these last few years. Being hospitalized during pregnancy for HG, a newborn hospitalized twice, Ray breaking a bone in his foot, using my school loan to fix our cracked bathtub with the help of my grandpa, and hospital visit after hospital visit. I really wonder how much more can go wrong but then I realize that our children are happy and healthy, and their parents are (relatively) healthy lol.

Thank you for reading if you've gotten this far, and I'll end this by saying thank you to those who have donated already or are donating now or those of you that have given us positive words or have helped by sharing our story. We are feeling overwhelmed to have so much love come into our lives through our community right now. We have paypal to use to avoid fees if you like, you just have to use the 'friends and family' option.
