Guatemala Volcano Relief

Last week I was with my family in a small mountain lodge in San Bartolome Milpas Altas in Guatemala. We were above the clouds and had breathtaking views of the volcanoes that surround this part of Guatemala. I awoke to a booming sound of the volcano known as fuego (fire) and was able to snap some pictures of it shooting lava into the still dark morning sky.

This type of small eruption is common for "el volcan de fuego" which is extremely active. Yesterday, however was different, the "fuego" volcano had a massive eruption resulting in mudslides, fires and unfortunately yet to be known numbers of deaths and destruction.

Crisis centers have been set up throughout Guatemala and they are asking for donations of diapers, clothing, water, blankets, toothbrushes, beans, rice, flour etc. These items are available for purchase in Guatemala City where they were spared from direct impact of the volcano. I have lived, worked and visited Guatemala consistently for the last 24 years and our family has lived in the three departments most affected by this eruption (Chimaltenango, Sacatepequez and Escuintla). As a result, I have had many people asking me how they can help and thus we have made arrangements with trusted partners and friends in the city to purchase and deliver (to the crisis centers) much needed supplies. All donations will be used directly for purchasing the items requested by the centers and delivered directly to the centers. Any help (including sharing) is greatly appreciated.
