Help Corey Rebuild

Donation protected
At the beginning of June, Corey joined the Wild Water Adventures crew as a driver. As this job started a new chapter in Corey’s life, and wanting to be closer to work, he and his dog Cookie, moved into his trailer by the river. On June 8th, a fridge heat exchanger overheated, and Corey soon began to smell smoke. When he went outside to investigate, he discovered that there were flames coming out of the back of his trailer. Corey ran back inside the trailer, threw Cookie out the door, and then grabbed his phone, wallet and keys; that was all he had time to do. Even with his trailer on fire, Corey quickly thought on his feet to disconnect his propane tanks before the fire reached them.

Cookie was Corey’s best friend, and she never left his side. Sadly, in all of the chaos, Cookie was frightened, and ran back inside the trailer to what is normally a safe spot for her. As Corey was disconnecting the propane tanks, he did not see this happen. With all of the smoke, and the overwhelming heat from the flames, Cookie died in the fire. A group of coworkers rushed down to the trailer to help, but unfortunately they were too late—the entire trailer was already engulfed in flames. All anyone could do was watch as the fire destroyed the trailer, and all of Corey’s belongings. The only remaining items that Corey had were the clothes on his back, and his phone, wallet, and keys. It was devastating to see the outcome.

Since that night, Corey’s coworkers have taken him in, given him a place to stay, and shared whatever clothes, food, and personal items they had. Corey is being taken care of by the kindness of others, and we want to do our best to support him so that he can get back on his own feet and independent again.

We often hear stories of people losing “everything”, and in this case, this is exactly what happened. With nothing left, compounded with the traumatic loss of a pet (and best friend), this is an incredibly difficult time for Corey. If you can help in any small way with donations or a financial contribution, it will go a long way in helping someone who has lost everything. No matter how small the donation, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your support of Corey during this challenging time.
