Just over 4 years ago my life was turned upside down when I learned my best friend died of a drug overdose. This was one of the most confusing times in my life. Mike was one of the most important people in my life, and this completely made me feel lost, and alone. He was also the first of many people I love that would be effected by drug addiction.
After he passed away, day by day addiction started showing up a lot in my life. They call it an "epidemic" and while this is true, I call it a nightmare.
As I got older I realized just how many people were feeling the same way I was when I first heard that my best friend was gone because of heroin. Most of the time it started because they didn't want to deal with the reality of their situations and they thought they had no one to turn to. Other times it was because they were bored and their medicine cabinets had the answer for a good time. Whatever the reason may be... I wanted it to stop. I want to help people realize what they are worth.
And here we are today.
I got tired of hearing stories of YOUNG HIGH SCHOOL BABIES loosing their lives to drugs. You're a STAR is committed to raising funds to support drug prevention services on Long Island. NO ONE is above this disease, and a fun time can quickly turn into a disaster. These funds will provide services that are include but are not limited too, counseling, educational workshops, after school activities, self exploration, and community support.
One of my first projects is to raise $40.000 by May 18th 2017 to support Long Island Youth reach their true potential. All proceeds will be used to support a Youth Leadership Initiative with the goal of having our young people be a major change agent in the conversatin about drug use and develop their skill set to evoke social change island wide.
I'm asking for genrosity, connection, urgency. If you or someone who know has in some form been impacted by drug addiction PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me in the effort to keep families together, communities strong, opportunities for young people to shine, and people alive!
