Did you know Central Texas is the largest metro area in the US without a permanent science museum? TXMOST aims to change that, and you can #GoBeyondGiving to help! We are open in a temporary facility in Cedar Park, and are small but growing!
TXMOST’s patrons are 70% families with young children, primarily aged 2 to 11. This target audience is common among science museums. With the arrival of “Wonderful Things: from the Pharaoh's Tomb” we are able to highlight archaeology as a science, but must also engage our young patrons in hands-on experiences. To support our families now and into the future, we are developing and installing a special room for hands-on, free-choice STEM play. Play is important to the way that children learn. Constructivist learning opportunities allow children to explore new concepts and creative play allows them to solidify those new concepts and integrate with them other experiences.
Activity rooms create a space that makes families feel welcome. They help families overcome museum fatigue. They are an environment in which families can explore together in ways that are directed by the child, giving a child agency in their visit.
An investment in this space is an investment in our future scientists. Along with our activity guides for the galleries, we are ensuring that our visiting families get more opportunities to explore science, engineering, math, and technology activities.
Your donation will go directly to the purchase of furniture and activities to build out this space.
