Jo goes to Greece

Tax deductible
After an incredibly privileged year of self-discovery, I've decided to spend a month over Christmas and New Year teaching yoga and meditation to refugees in Serres, Greece. I'm keen to share the skills I've learned and dedicate time and energy to helping others. I'll be away from 13 December to 11 January.

I'm very lucky to have connected with Lifting Hands International, a US charity doing amazing work in their Refugee Center -- a buzzing hub of education and healing, 100 meters from Serres refugee camp itself. Read about the camp.

If this year has taught me anything, it's that I have an incredibly strong, vibrant and courageous network behind me. Please join me in supporting this organisation, so that my time with them can have even more impact. And if you were planning to get me a Christmas gift, do this instead!

I'm paying for my own travel, accommodation and living expenses in Serres -- 100% of your donation will support the work of Lifting Hands International.

More about LHI's services...

Lifting Hands International has a full-time team of dedicated volunteers in Serres, Greece that supports 1,000+ Iraqi Yazidi refugees -- survivors of a brutal genocide -- with the following services:

- Educational support: English, German, & Arabic sessions

- Psycho/Social support: Trauma-informed yoga, fitness, art, and a multitude of music classes

- Nutritional support: Weekly deliveries of fresh vegetables, pasta, flour, sugar, and cooking oil

- Hygiene support: Weekly distribution of shampoo, soap, toilet paper, and other hygiene supplies

- Seasonal clothing: Quarterly deliveries of season-appropriate clothing, especially needed in winter

- Safe spaces with daily programming for women and children, who are particularly vulnerable in the camp

What your donation could do...

$10 could pay for a weekly hygiene kit for one family

$25 could pay for a basic stroller for mothers in the camp

$50 could pay for weekly dry food, fresh vegetables and cooking oil for one family

$100 could pay for the weekly supply of baby formula for babies in the camp

$200 could pay for two weeks' support for the Women's Safe Space

Small print...

UK friends, LHI is a US charity, so all amounts are in USD. $1 = 78p, but check current exchange rates before you donate.

And FYI, team members like me pay for their stay in the team volunteer apartment, freeing up your donations to provide services/items.
