I was notified of a dog who was in desperate need of help. She had been tied to a light post with electrical wire. I drove an hour out to Avondale (when the dog then had projectile diarrhea in my car) and drove this beautiful girl back to the vet on my side of town. They took her in immediately. She wouldn't move at all and the doctors had to put her on a cart to wheel her in. I could tell that she was the sweetest dog. Her eyes were soulful. I had hope. The doctor did a parvo test, which came back negative. The doctor was very surprised. The dog was probably never given vaccinations. The doc immediately put her (Sweet Pea) on fluids because of extreme dehydration. Her gums were ice cold when they should be pink and warm. Well, after more examination, the news wasn't good. The doctor highly suspected it could be the onset of parvo, which can be fatal if not treated, however the treatment can run upwards of $5,000. But there's no way of knowing if she is getting parvo. She'll either get it or she won't. The doc gave me a few options in terms of treatment but the problem is, there are SO many unknowns. It's only about a 50/50 chance she'll make it through. She's currently at the vet for hospitalization. I paid $200 to keep her on IV fluids over night. Tomorrow Sweet Pea gets transported for further treatment, if they think she will make it. She's only about 1 year old. I am so devastated. You can tell Sweet Pea is just an absolutely wonderful dog. She deserves a chance. I noticed that she slept very soundly on a blanket in my car. I think she knew that she was saved and in loving arms. I'm glad I could give her that. I'm not sure how she will do from here, but I am so heartbroken. If the money can be raised to treat her, we can give this beautiful, sweet girl a chance at life. (The photo above is her in my car.)
