My journey to BEAT Ocular Melanoma
My name is Ryan Gibson, I'm a Navy veteran and help athletes find endorsements and sponsorships. My job requires alot of film watching, emails, phone calls and analyzing talent. All that was placed on hold last week when a tumor was found behind my right eye.
That tumor turned out to be Ocular Melanoma, a very rare form of eye cancer. Only 2,000 people are diagnosed with Ocular Melanoma every year. That's 1 in 160,000 people in the entire U.S. population. The treatments are EXTREMELY expensive, along with travel and being turned down for insurance, this process will be extremely hard on myself and my family.
I'm definitely not one to ask for money, but in this case I need to. With out the treatments this disease can be life threatening. Treatment options range from plaque radiation, chemotherapy, and removal of my eye. None of these sound enjoyable but with worst case DEATH, I'll most certainly accept the first 3.
In my line of work I've helped many people reach their dreams and goals, by contacting companies to help them. Now I hope you all can help me reach my dream and goal of BEATING Ocular Melanoma.
Sight is such a small thing that we all take for granted until we are faced with losing it.
