In May of 2013, my mother began the fight for her life.   After a visit to the OBGYN, it was determined that she had a fibroid on her uterous.  In August 2013, she underwent a full hysterectomy where they found a tumor inside the fibroid and she was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called Leiomyosarcoma.
The doctors started her on chemo in May of 2014 and since than she has undergone 6 different types of chemotherapy treatment.  While the doctors told her there was no cure, she remained positive and kept fighting.  Chemo has knocked her down many times but that did not stop my mom from getting back up and fighting for her life.
In January of 2016, she started a clinical trial ran by her oncologist and in May we saw progress with several tumors and was scheduled for abdominal surgery for June 21st to remove a massive tumor.  During the surgery, they had to cut part of her bladder in order to remove the mass.  She was than given a foley for 9 days and sent home to recover.   Upon removal of the foley, she went in septic shock due to infection and was admitted into the hospital for another week for treatment.
In August 2016, my mom woke up to use the restroom and fell to the floor.  She had lost her mobilty from the waste down.  The cancer had spread to her spine and she went into emergency surgery.  They were able to remove the tumor that was wedged into her vetebrae, however, her battle for mobilty was just beginning.  After a week in the hospital she was admitted into Bryn Mawr Rehab facility where she spent 26 days working on building her strength and mobility.  She was discharged in late September with in home care.
On Halloween, she started radiation for three weeks to treat the spinal area.  Towards the end of radiation, she started feeling really sick.  On Thanksgiving, she was rushed to the hospital where she was diagnosed with two massive blood clots,  one in her lung and the other in her leg.  After scans, it was determined that the cancer had come back with a tumor taking up most of her abdomen and one on each lung the size of softballs, as well as several other areas.  After speaking with her oncologist, it was determind that no other medical treatment would be effective in killing the cancer.  Her oncologist has given her 6-9 months, possibly 3 depending on her body.  She is very weak and now on oxygen.  At this time, she has made the decision to move forward with in home hospice care and forgo traditional treatment.
Unfortunately, the blood clot medicine is not covered by her insurance and she needs to take this everyday to avoid further complications.   She has significant medical bills and insurance does not cover alternative treatmeant options so we are seeking donations to help keep up the fight.
For those of you that know my mother, know that she would never ask for help if it was not needed.  She has devoted her life to being a mother, a friend and dedicated employee.  She has always put others in front of herself and now she needs us to help keep her spirit alive and provide support during this difficult time.
