Spring Lake Park, Minnesota Lighthouse School's improv team "Yes, and..." won first place in the state Improv category in their second year of competing and countless hours of practice! Read below to learn about other ways we are working to raise money!

Global finals brings Destination Imagination student teams from around the world to compete in Kansas City at the world's largest celebration of creativity.

What is Destination Imagination?

Destination Imagination (DI) is a global educational nonprofit dedicated to inspiring the next generation of innovators, leaders and creative problem solvers.

DI's Mission: "To engage participants in project-based challenges that are designed to build confidence and develop extraordinary creativity, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills"

What does it mean to kids? DI makes creativity into a hands-on, collaborative competition for youth in 45 states and 30 countries!

"Yes, and..." competes in the Improv category where this year teams were required to research famous figure heads from coins of the world. At competition they were given two characters (Queen Elizabeth and Jane Austen), a scenario (they are interviewing a local sports team for a commercial), and two minutes to prepare. A coin is flipped to see if they will start with a tragedy or comedy. At some point the team has to take a "flip," (written on a piece of paper is a second scenario) read how they will finish the skit (in this case the scenario is the spider web broke) and go from comedy to tragedy in a non-verbal second half. The team must work together and weave what they learned about the characters from their research into their performance.

Break down of our Costs to attend Global Finals-----------------------------------------------------------

$5,500 - Team registration fee. Includes credentials, admission, and activities during the event. Due May 1
$800 - Meals
$1,200 - Hotel (2 rooms)
$ TBD - Gas/vehicle rental

The registration fee to attend Global Finals in Kansas City, MO is $5,500. Any part of the $5,500 is a tax deductible donation. Anything beyond that is considered a personal gift.
