In May of 2017 our dad Jon was diagnosed with prostate cancer which had metastasised (spread to other parts of the body). He was selected for a trial which proved to be very successful. However, as time has progressed the disease has morphed into a more aggressive form of cancer.
We have consulted with doctors and specialists on the Gold Coast and from The Kinghorn Cancer Centre in Sydney to review his medical trial history and physical state of health today. Due to the progression and change of his cancer they have decided the only treatment that could give Jon a fighting chance is Immunotherapy.
Immunotherapy has proven to be highly successful for a variety of different cancers by assisting the immune system to fight cancer cells. They have recommended that the treatment starts right away. Currently Immunotherapy isn't listed as a type of treatment for prostate cancer, but in Jon's case it is the only option going forward.
Immunotherapy isn't subsidised under the Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme (PBS) for Jon's situation which is where we ask for your help. Currently Jon is undergoing fortnightly treatments of Immunotherapy and Radiotherapy. Individual treatments range in price from $2500 to $5000 depending on where he is accommodated (in hospital or as an outpatient).
The money we are hoping to raise will cover the cost of the first four treatments of Jon's Immunotherapy. It's never easy asking for money, but any donations would be greatly appreciated to give Jon a fighting chance.
