For anyone that knows me knows how much I love animals and how much I especially love this little booger. For anyone who doesn't, this is Hercules.
I never in a million years would have found myself asking anyone for help because that isn't who I am, but this isn't for me this is for him. I rescued Herc when he was only about 4 weeks old.. someone had left him at a friends barn where they found him and I took him in. After rescuing him and treating him for multiple types of worms, fleas, etc, he seemed to be doing well. But a couple months ago he started with these coughing episodes....
We went through so many tests but can't seem to figure out what's causing them and he's only getting worse. We were thinking it was just asthma but it is very severe considering how young he is. He uses an inhaler twice a day and can not live off of steroids. We have been in and out of the vet emergency room three times in the last two months, one being a very close call where he had to stay in an oxygen incubator...
So far I have spent well over 3,000 dollars on this little munchkin and it's absolutely drained my savings. I am a full time nursing student, working my way to become a midwife and it's getting really hard for me to afford his medical bills while I am so busy in school. The other night after an asthma attack our vet at Peiper and Memorial told us that we really have no option but to have a procedure done on his lungs. They are going to put him under and wash out his lungs out with saline and then biopsy everything that they flush out to see if we could be missing something. Multiple vets have suggested we do this but I have been putting it off due to the price of it. There really is no option if I do it or not at this point though and this is why I'm here. Herc's lung X'rays look like a long term smokers and he is not even a year old. His poor little lungs are filled with gunk and it's time we clear them out. He has saved my life and now I'm asking for help to save his. I know money is tough for everyone and not just me but anything can help.. even if it's just keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. I'm really scared for him.
