Please help us get our children off to a GREAT start by helping Baltimore City and County School students with weekend food for the upcoming school year!
Baltimore Hunger Project is a 501(c)3 non profit charity dedicated to eliminating the growing problem of weekend childhood hunger. We are focusing on providing the most basic need for any growing child...nutrition.
The problem we face is tremendous. Did you know more than 16 million children in the US live in food-insecure homes? Or that one in five children in Maryland is at risk of hunger? In Baltimore City alone, over 82% of its students receive daily free and reduced price meals; that equates to nearly 72,000 children!
The Baltimore Public School System does a magnificent job in feeding breakfast and lunch to kids Monday through Friday. The problem, however, is that on weekends in some households, in spite of sometimes heroic work done by many local organizations, proper amounts of food are not available to the children. And that is where Baltimore Hunger Project comes into the picture!
With the help of a dedicated team of volunteers, we provide kid friendly food packages to elementary school children who would normally come to school hungry on Monday mornings. Improved nutrition on the weekends enable "at-risk" children to be better prepared to participate in their education.
It costs us $200 to provide a package of food for one child each weekend (38 weeks) during the school year. One of the best things you can do for our kids is consider investing in their future!
So we invite you to help us - whether you donate the cost of one nutritional pack for $5 or ten for $50; donate $200 to sustain one student for the school year, or if you are feeling incredibly generous donate $400 to invest in two students! Every single dollar helps and will make a difference in the lives of the children.
