Help 13 eager, young organizers get to the heart of the nation, Washington DC, to dive into history, culture and community!
Each summer, the Lussier Community Education Center hosts an 8-week intensive summer internship for high school students on the west side of Madison, WI. The interns express interest in social justice of all varieties and given tools to move interest into social action. Through workshops of community organizing, career exploration, team building and leadership training they leave prepared to aid injustices found in our communities with positive and effective change.
The height of the internship is a week-long delegation trip. In previous years YASI trips landed in dynamic cities, such as Atlanta and Detroit. This year we are aiming for Washington D.C. to apply what we’ve developed in the nation’s capital. Most of our students have never been that far from home and this journey would leave a lasting influence on us all. We hope to visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture and others, explore universities in the DC area, and connect with local community organizations to learn and share techniques and stories to better influence change in our respective communities.
The trip costs about $6500 - that’s under $400 a person. It’s a steal compared to other delegation trips. And we have roughly 75% of the funds already raised. So we’re turning to you for help us raise the last $2000. Can you help us get all the way to Washington DC!
