Help Milo Read

Donation protected
I'd like to tell you a little bit about my nephew, Milo. This was written by his beautiful mama for me so I could share this with you and ask for your help.

Milo is 9 years old. For his birthday he wanted "electrical experiments" so that he can further understand the way electricity is created, conducted, carried and used. He wants to know these things because he wants to solve the problems of the world. In his spare time he dictates letters to scientists explaining alternate ways of powering engines which "won't harm the earth".
He is describes by his peers as the one who "always helps someone else if they are hurt or upset". His compassion and empathy far exceed his years.

He loves bike riding, tennis and cricket. He wants to play for Australia. He plans to spend his pay cheques rehabilitating Australia's urban sprawl with bushland.

But the thing he wants more than anything else in the world, is to be able to read. In books, the world opens up. In books, there is information and possibility and history and hope. In books, his imagination can be fueled and fed.

Milo has severe dyslexia. Meaning that when he looks at any symbols on a page they move and grow and shrink and slide about. He describes this experience as the words being like "fizzy bubbles in lemonade".

His school report reads "He is a friendly, helpful member of the classroom who always puts 100% effort into his work. Milo is curious about everything. He is a good problem solver, often able to see the 'bigger picture'." A trait classic to dyslexic people.

In Australia support for dyslexic children is not funded.
It is recommend that he have considerable support in the classroom and further support and assistance from a specialist teacher after school. The cost for such support quickly adds up to tens of thousands of dollars.

It is our hope to fund a 2 week intensive program with a specialist teacher which will assist Milo in mastering many of the words and letters he struggles the most with. The program, developed in 1994, is called The Davis Method. It has a 97% success rate.
The cost of the program is $2900. Any additional money raised will fund ongoing tutoring to assist in his learning in and out of the classroom.

We are overwhelmingly grateful to Milo's Aunty Danielle for organizing this campaign and also for the extraordinary love and support shown to Milo and our family.

This child has stars in his eyes, hope in his heart and determination unrivaled.

Please help us help him.
Julie and Paul Ryan

The specialist told Julie & Paul that Milo needs radical & immediate help now, that they should fight to gain funds for him but the truth is, there is no funding. Milo has a unique & wonderful gift, one that he can share with the world, with his generous & compassionte soul, he could help change the world but he won't be able to complete school if he is unable to read & write, he will struggle to be a part of our world as an adult if he doesnt get the help he needs. I want to help him!

I can't even begin to explain the complexities of this gift, this disability but if you would like to find out more, please visit http://www.gifteddyslexic.com/dyslexia-information/dyslexia-explained which briefly & simply explains some of the experiences Milo has when trying to desipher the written symbols. You can also visit http://www.davisdyslexia.co.nz/pages/3-7/Dyslexia-Correction-Programme-for-Reading-and-Writing for a little more information on the program for Milo.

I would love to raise more funds for continued support for Milo but my goal is to be able to pay for the program to get him started. I also plan to share an update after his has completed the 2 week program.

Thank you for any support you can give.
Blessings to you all xx
