My name is Ralph Blewitt.
I’m a Vietnam veteran, I served with the 1st Platoon, A Company the 2nd Battalion the Royal Australian Regiment as a volunteer in South Vietnam 1967-68.
When I came home from Vietnam things were tough. I knocked around a bit, sold furniture and whitegoods, drove a forklift and ended up as a union shop steward.
I became an organiser with the WA Branch of the Australian Workers’ Union and I met a bloke who changed my life for the worse. His name is Bruce Morton Wilson. At the time I knew him he was Julia Gillard’s live-in lover.
I was used to taking orders because of my time in the Army. Bruce Wilson was used to giving orders. Bruce told me what to do and I did it.
First up I thought Bruce and Julia Gillard had the best interests of the workers at heart. I now know that was wrong. Bruce and Gillard were in it for themselves.
Bruce had unbelievable influence over the Carmen Lawrence Labor Government during his time as boss of the AWU in WA. Carmen Lawrence believed Bruce when he threatened to use the AWU numbers to have her removed from her job as Premier - that’s the way the Labor system worked. Bruce came up with a scheme to get a few hundred thousand dollars if his brother in law’s firm, Thiess Contractors, was given a $60 Million contract to build a large canal project for the WA Government.
It was supposed to go to tender, but Carmen Lawrence stopped the tender process and - in secret - gave the $60M contract to Bruce Wilson’s brother in law’s firm Thiess. As a result, Bruce got nearly half a million dollars corruptly from Thiess. I know that, because Bruce got me to do the paperwork for the payments of the bribe money.
I could not have done that myself. Bruce’s girlfriend Julia Gillard was a lawyer and she was in on the deal. She did the legal paperwork. Everything Bruce told me he wanted done ended up being done by Gillard. She did the conveyancing when Bruce wanted to use the money to buy a house for himself in Melbourne. She set up a mortgage for Bruce when we didn’t have enough dodgy money to buy his house. She even backdated a false and forged so-called “Power of Attorney” to put the house into my name.
A couple of years ago I decided to come clean and tell the police about the frauds. Twice now I’ve flown to Melbourne from my home in Malaysia and to give the police statements. I’ve appeared before the Royal Commission into Trade Union Governance and Corruption. I’ve admitted my part - and I’m prepared to tell all about Gillard, Wilson and their role in these crimes.
The police have told me that I’ll soon be charged over my role. I have no immunity from prosecution and I deserve whatever punishment I get. But it sickens me to think that Bruce Wilson and Julia Gillard might avoid being punished for organising the frauds.
That’s why I’m asking for your help. I am on a veteran’s TPI (totally and permanently incapacitated) pension - it’s my only income and I don’t have any assets like a house to fund my legal representation. I want to engage a strong legal team that can present my role to the court - but which will also ensure that Gillard and Wilson’s roles are brought to the court’s attention.
Will you help fund my legal representation? I’m a battler - and you know the sort of money and legal support that Julia Gillard (and therefore Bruce Wilson too) have access to. Kevin Otway Hi Ralph, you are doing the right thing. I admire any person who stands up and tells the truth even though you were originally innocently involved. You have my full support. Please let me know where to donate. Trust me this is a worthy caused, dig deep, Ralph Blewitt's friends........Gillard, Wilson and Shorten can't get away with this.
