HISTORY of FLAKVIERLING 38, #1843
The mount itself was probably shipped directly from the Ostmarkwerk near Vienna to the Krupp Schießplatz in Meppen, where it was captured in 1945, and most likely never saw service with the military. In 1943, a design change ended production of the Flakvisier 40 replacing the cast aluminum sight arms with a stamped steel design for the new, Flakvisier 40a (similar in design to the Flakvisier 38).

In 1944 all mounts in military service were to have and analog flakvisier computers removed as the complicated and dificut to mantain Flakviser 38/40 computing type reflector sight was removed from service.

That this mount survived through to 1945 without any of the changes mandated by the military, indicate the mount was most likely not in military service.

It has been confirmed by the Krupp Historical Archives that an Army plan to bring 2,0 cm Flak guns to Meppen for defense was abandoned. Since it was not there in a defensive role, it can be deduced that it was there in a technical role on the Krupp test range.

The mount was ultimately taken by a Canadian Army  "Intelligence Collection Team". Captured along with the mount was a Sd.Ah (sonderanhanger = special trailer) type 52. It was stripped of its tires and was found 71 years later in the exact same situation: sitting next to mount #1843 still without tires and wheels!

My Flakvierling 38, was manufactured at the Ostmarkwerk (bpk, Wa.A 693) in Vienna, it is #1843 produced in 1942.

Proceeds  will help with the complete restoration. It will be displayed at airshows and WWII reenactments across America.
