Acquired HLH Medical Debt

A couple days after Christmas in 2018, I was hospitalized at Carle Foundation Hospital. After several days of ineffective treatments, I was transferred to Barnes Jewish Hospital ICU. I spent over a month hospitalized and lost 20 pounds. I had a severe attack of Acquired HLH, which is a very rare autoimmune disease. Luckily, a new drug (Jakafi) has stabilized my counts, and I benefit from a compassionate patient program, so I receive the medication for free from the company directly. 

I am fully recovered, highly medicated, and still healing in some ways - but the bill has arrived, and after being approved for a discount based on our tax return, that still leaves us with $24,000 in debt. I am so grateful for the specialists and nurses who worked hard to see me survive, but we need help now. Any little bit will make a significant difference.
