Help Us Bring Our Brother Home

Donation protected
My brother just turned 28 years old. He is the oldest boy in our family of 9 children and I am the youngest daughter.
Having a brother who you love with all your heart, who is paralyzed is painful. Seeing my brother on a respirator or
trying with all of his might to breathe without it, is a difficult experience to describe.
Last November my brother suddenly fell ill from a disease called Transverse Miletus. He had to be taken by helicopter
to the Jefferson University Neuroscience Hospital in Philadelphia for testing and treatment. He was then put in the ICU
for weeks. Me and my siblings have rotated taking care of our brother whose spinal cord was so inflamed that it destroyed
all the tissue that transfers messages from the brain to the rest of the body. We feed him, encourage him, help move his limbs
and wash his hair. Now we are taking care of the big brother who once took care of us.
My brother is currently hospitalized at the most fantastic rehabilitation hospital, Magee, in Philadelphia. Though he loves the wonderful care he has received there, he deeply desires to come home. It has been 6 months since my brother could join us
at the table and be in the comfort of his own room. We would like to make this dream of his possible, but it requires
much funding. We have to make many costly changes in our home to accommodate his power wheelchair and all the medical
equipment that he needs in order to survive.
We need to raise thousands of dollars. The insurance does not pay for many of the supplies that he needs. My brother
will have to come into our house with an elevator lift costing $20000, (we have a bi-level with lots of stairs) and we have to make numerous changes in the room and bathroom to accommodate the needs of a patient with Transverse Miletus.
We hope that people out there will respond. Just learning about all the medical information and care that is needed in order
to bring my brother back home safely is enough pressure for our family.
But now we are also very worried about the funding required in order to make it happen.
Please help my family so we can help to finally bring our beloved brother home.
