Alyssa's Water Polo Tournament Fund

My club team, OC Riptide, will be competing in the Junior Olympics this summer of which I am the team goalie.  However, at the conclusion of Junior Olympics, the team is going to Hawaii to compete in a tournament of which I am currently unable to attend due to my working and saving for college.  Without my involvement in the tournament, my teammates will not have a goalie and will need to substitute a field player into that position.

I did not work during High School as I focused entirely on my school work and water polo.  I was Senior Class President and maintained a 4.4 GPA while playing water polo.  Now that High School is over, I'm playing catch-up to assist in my college savings.  My goal with this GoFundMe is to raise the money necessary so that I can join the team for this tournament and play my part as goalie.  Working and saving for college is important to me and while I want to assist my team in any way possible, I cannot afford this trip on my own.  If I can get 120 people to donate $20 each, I can make this trip a reality!

I've played water polo at Ocean View High School for the past four years. The past 2 1/2 years I've been honored to be the Varsity goalie and a two-time member of the All-CIF team. Next year, I will be playing water polo for Chapman University in Orange, CA. This sport has shaped me into an athlete as well as a leader and I am so grateful for the experience I've been able to have.
With incredible teammates and coaches, our Varsity team has made it to CIF Finals for the last three consecutive seasons. The girls pictured below are the kindest, smartest, and most talented people I know. This team has a true bond and unconditional love for one another. Going to Hawaii is my last chance to play with the teammates that have had such a major impact on my life. Each of us is unique, yet we all share the same passion for the game.

The hardest part about leaving high school to continue my water polo career at the collegiate level is having to say good bye to the two people who have been my role models. It's rare to find two coaches who are able to teach not only the fundamentals of water polo, but the fundamentals of life as well. It is because of their encouragement and faith in me that I will be a college athlete. I truly hope to make them proud in Hawaii as I play for them one last time.

This was taken on the day I signed to Chapman to officially commit as a water polo player. It's scary to be part of a new team with new coaches and playing in a new pool, but I am excited for the opportunity!

"There is no position in sport as noble as goaltending."
-Russian Olympic ice hockey goalie Vladislav Tretiak

"The position demands a strength of self and an unflappable demeanor while also, by its very nature, a sense of humility. Built into the position is public failure. It's impossible to be perfect."  -Jack Bowen

Thank you for taking the time to read about me and my story. Being able to attend the Hawaiian Invitational would be the best final experience with the team that I have grown so close to. Your support will help me make my team, coaches, and parents proud as I play my heart out. I am very excited for what the future holds and I thank you for sharing in my passion.
