Funding The Fight

As many of our friends and family know,  in April of 2018 Sam was diagnosed with Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).  He had a mass in his chest that grew rapidly and expanded into his heart and created many circulatory issues.

Although this is one of the more treatable cancers, Sam’s first round of chemotherapy did not successfully eliminate his active cancer cells. It did however reduce the size of the tumor in half and his heart returned to normal but still, active cells remain.

The next course of treatment for Sam will be  a clinical trial at Princess Margaret Hospital and the treatment includes high dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplant.  This treatment gives Sam the best shot at a possible cure or possible remission of the disease, and we are thrilled that he will be at Princess Margaret, which is a world-renowned cancer hospital in Toronto.

Up until now, our Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) has covered Sam’s treatment costs and our drug plan has captured most of the prescription costs of treatment.  And with the help of family and friends we have stayed financially afloat through a very difficult 6 months.

That is all about to change.

Sam's treatment will be carried out 2 hours from home and will involve an extended stay in the hospital, along with months (possibly years) of appointments and tests and follow-up after the procedure.

The added costs:

Transportation to and from Toronto for appointments and tests
Parking fees
Housing near the hospital
Food (because lets face it, hospital food sucks!)
Prescriptions that are not covered by our drug plan
and time off work for an extended period of time.

So many people have offered to help us and have been so kind as to assist us with groceries and making meals, but now I would ask that if you can assist us with a donation, it would help alleviate the stress and worry of the financial burden we will experience during treatment and make the healing process so much easier.

Please note, that all unused funds that are raised will be re-donated to the Princess Margaret Cancer Research Fund.

Thank you all for your love and support!
