X-rays for my dog Riggs

Donation protected
Last year in August of 2017 I noticed my dog was having a bit of an issue walking and was holding up one of his legs and it was shaking. I took him to the vet because of this and they told me he had arthritis. They gave me some Loxicom which I used for 3 months and from that time on he was pretty good.

In the last 4 days (October 2018) he has not been able to walk except to go out to the bathroom or maybe around the block. He front legs give out and he falls down or he simply stops and refuses to walk. So I took him to the vet again and they said they would need x-rays to figure out what was going on. I thought ok I now need to make a claim on my insurance so we can move forward as the vet said the sooner the better. Come to find out I am on what is known as a 12 month policy and because I got him treatment  in 2017 for arthritis, then 12 months pass, they will not not cover me for anything arthritis related.

They did say the would pay for the x-rays if it turns out to not be arthritis but there is no way to know that until I get them and it is a gamble I can not afford to take. They will cost £440 and I will have to pay if it is arthritis.  Technically by wording of my policy they are correct. I have no ground to stand on, but what I do know is it is not right as I have been paying them religiously for 6 yrs now. Paying them for peace of mind which I now see was never there. All because I walked into the vet over 12 months ago to get him a little bit of pain relief. Once treatment starts, and 12 months pass, well you are out of luck unless you have their most expensive policy. Insurance should be insurance as far as I am concerned.

I have epilepsy and do not work, ironically because insurance companies think I am a liability. Either way I do not have much and I do not mind that. Even though I did not have much I paid for insurance because I knew my boy Riggs needed it. Riggs means the world to me. He is my buddy as all our dogs are. He has been there with me through many seizures. He has walked mile after mile with me as we raised money for epilepsy via our little charity Rambling for Epilepsy. This is probably why the arthritis is kicking in early because I pushed him hard as we walked a lot.

I do not know what to say. I love my dog. I do not want to be doing this Go Fund Me. My stupid pride does not want me doing it because I already hate being on benefits. However I have to set my pride aside because I love my dog more than my stupid shortcomings as a human being. It is not like I got a dog and just figured I would ask for money if he got hurt. No, I took out an insurance policy that costs me £34 a month just in case something happened, but because of a technicality they will not pay. I have no power against a corporation. I am just a little guy who pays them money so what do I matter as long as they get paid. I now what to cancel the insurance because what is the point. I can not however because then he is not covered. Direct Line knows they have me between a rock and a hard place and they do not care. They told me to look into charities to which  I said why, I pay you. They told me I am entitled to my opinion, and I said who cares, I want to be entitled to the insurance that I have been paying for no matter this stupid 12 month thing. Yes are they right on grounds of what the contract says. Yes, they are and that is what makes this seem even more wrong.

A dog is a dog and insurance is insurance. I paid for peace of mind and I am being denied it. I love my dog and any and all funds will go directly to the treatment of my dog. Again I do not know what else to say except I love my dog and thank you if you can help. If you can not I fully understand. Please share this. If you have any questions about whether I am legitimate or not you can find me on Facebook at Rambling for Epilepsy. Where me and my wonderful dalmatian try to raise awareness for epilepsy...

Thank you, Jonathan and Riggs
