Big Rick (Richard Curtis) is a father, friend, and brother to many. He has always been known as uncle Rick to me and my siblings. Ricks life revolves around serving and helping others. He coaches youth basketball and is a mentor to many. He's constantly helping people with their automobiles at his house which is unofficially known as Ricks Garage.
Last week he and my father were involved in a violent car accident. They were returning home when a lady turned early into the intersection on a yield and t-boned them. Both cars were totaled and the vehicle Rick was in had to be cut apart to remove the passengers. They were both immediately transported to the emergency room.
Rick suffered a broken humerus arm, dislocated knee cap, 8 dislocated fingers, separated shoulder, major concussion, and deep bruise on his forehead and eyes, and bruised ribs,
The money raised means so much to me because the reason Rick was involved in this accident is because he was in the act of helping my Sister. Savanna recently returned home from a mission and was given an old Crown Victoria to drive around. It needed a spark plug replaced and Rick offered to replace it for free. Rick and my father were returning home from the auto parts store when the accident occurred. He was in the act of service which placed him in this accident and now his life will be changed forever.
He has a long road to recovery. He will spend a few months in a dedicated rehab facility before being able to return home. Talking about the accident, he says he cares less about the injuries and more that he will one day be fully recovered so that he can continue to be able to coach his kids and help people with their cars.
The money raised will go to help our Brother pay for bills until he can be back to normal and continue working. Hundreds of people have benefited from Big Ricks generosity throughout the years and we'd like to help him out during this time of need.
