Brain Tumor Recovery

$3,520 of $4,500 goal

Raised by 77 people in 1 month
After months of increasingly severe symptoms, I was diagnosed with a large brain tumor on Fri April 26, 2019.  A doozy of a plot twist in my life and ability to work and earn income, this news comes at a time where I have no savings to cover the basic or extra expenses right now without income. Rent, utilities, groceries/food, car payments/insurance are some of the basics that won’t wait for SDI benefits to kick in. There are additional expenses with transportation and childcare while others are helping during my hospital stay. Beyond surgery at Stanford on May 8, we can’t predict what recovery may entail, and your donations and sharing of this fundraiser are very much appreciated to help keep us stable during this time.

Recovery continues to go well, if slowly. I’ve been to see the epilepsy doctor about seizures and soon will have a 48 hour EEG to assess in more depth my risk of seizures and if some of these strange episodes are actually seizures.
I’ve been doing eye exercises (ala making art) and my vision has improved since much! My eyes still don’t track together 100%, and my left eye is swollen a lot, but I’m enjoying the improvement.
I hope to be able to return to work in about a month and be able to work around the radiation treatments. I’m optimistically hoping my vision/ability to read quickly and my physical and mental stamina will improve by then (right now, stamina of any kind is fairly non existent). The donations to this campaign have literally been what’s kept me able to pay rent and bills and buy groceries. I am so very grateful for the support! I hope we reach our goal so I can continue to take care of these basics until returning to work. Thank you all so much!

Commissioning me to make custom art (paintings, drawings, clothing or musical instrument customization) or buying existing art also helps us make ends meet until I can return to my awesome job (and I’ll continue to make art along side my job). Here are pictures of a couple recent pieces and a former mandolin project.

Thank you all so much for sharing this campaign and for your donations, which have literally been the only thing keeping us able to buy groceries, household items, and not get delinquent on rent/utilities!
SDI benefits have kicked in, but they are less than half of what I need to keep our rent/bills paid.
My recovery is going really well and I’m doing as much occupational therapy at home to be able to return to work within 4-6weeks (That’s MY goal, since I work from home. Docs won’t tell me anything until mid-late August)
Please keep sharing my campaign to reach the goal of $4500 so we can continue to stay current with bills/rent until I’m able to meet my goal for returning to earning sufficient income.
During my recovery, I AM able to make occasions cards or do commissioned works of art (painting, multimedia, drawing, etc) slowly and at my own pace.

Please keep sharing this campaign. My application for SDI benefits was accepted and they’ve determined the amount of $ I’ll receive each week. It’s not much, only half of what our basic budget is each month for rent/utilities/groceries. Ahhh the life of a single mom who’s great with a tight budget as long as she can earn income..... but gets screwed because there’s no extra to save for unexpected emergencies like brain tumors.
I’m applying for CalFresh benefits to help cover groceries and hoping folks who are able to do so will share/donate to this campaign, or buy my art or encourage others to buy my art, so I can keep current with rent, phone bill, utilities, etc.

Art makes great gifts for loved ones, and buying it from me helps me provide for my loved ones.
