Over the past few months my dads condition has deteriorated extremely quickly and it has put him in Hospice. Dad has done 10 cycles of Chemotherapy sessions; his cancer continues to progress giving us the harsh reality that he is Terminally Ill.
Due to the aggressive nature of Pancreatic cancer and how it has metastasized to his liver, it has caused his liver to enlarge causing it to press against his other organs. The pain medication has caused chronic constipation resulting in him not able to eat. He is now 115 lbs compared to the 129 diagnosis weight which was already 30 lbs down off of his original weight.
This has also added ongoing health issues and potential chronic illnesses as well as decreasing Dad’s prognosis. We have had 3 different specialists unable to provide us with any hope of a positive outcome. Surgery is off the table and treatments have failed to sustain or improve his condition.
He has been in and out of the hospital over 8 times within the last 3 months. On August 17th he was admitted into a local Hospice center as inpatient. The goal of this is to get his pain manageable, 7 days in the hospital and they could not get it under control.
In spite of being in Hospice, my dad is not ready to give up. Hospice is helping with 24 hour nursing to manage his pain. With in these next weeks if he improves he will get released home and revoke Hospice care. The end goal is when he gets home and is stabilized that he will get on a newly released chemo treatment to see if it will target the cancer that has metastasized to the liver. The new oncologist that we rewording with are hopeful that it may work.
The love and support by everyone has been priceless alone during this time and we can't thank you all enough.
