Fundraiser for Officer Jackson

On Saturday, Feb. 10, Officer Wardell Jackson was performing his duties as a security officer at the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum when he was repeatedly harassed by demonstrators carrying Confederate and MS state flags.
The demonstrators, members of a Neo-Confederate group called the Delta Flaggers, were in town to participate in the Dixie National Parade. They oppose removal of the Confederate emblem from the MS state flag and the decision of the Civil Rights Museum not to display the state flag on its campus. When Officer Jackson directed the demonstrators to remain across the street from the entrance to the museum, the taunting began. Officer Jackson repeatedly directed the demonstrators to move along and allow him to perform his duties, but they continued to harass him, at one point waving a MS state flag containing the Confederate emblem in his face yelling, "This is YOUR state flag!"

As a result of a complaint against him by the Delta Flaggers, Officer Jackson was initially fired, but has since been reinstated with a one-week suspension.
We are Mississippi Rising Coalition, a 501c3 non-profit organization in Mississippi which advocates for and organizes campaigns for social justice and civil rights, and we have been in contact with Officer Jackson and his legislator Representative Kathy Sykes and will to continue monitor this situation. At this time, we are raising funds to cover Officer Jackson's lost wages from the suspension. Board Member TNathan Fairley has spoken with Mr. Jackson directly and has received his approval on behalf of MRC to engage in this fundraising campaign.
100% of funds raised will be hand delivered by an MRC board member directly to Officer Jackson on a mutually agreed upon date at the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. We will post photos of the delivery of funds here and are happy to provide financial records detailing the transaction to any individual requesting it.
