Scott Carver's Bucket List Fund
For those who know Scott, you know this is the most hilarious, down-to-earth, kind and loving man you could ever have the pleasure of sharing time with. For those who don't, please read on. As comments are collected, I'm sure you'll get the idea.
As many know, Scott began having seizures a year or so ago; that has made maintaining his landscaping business a little more daunting. But for the love of his family and his immense sense of responsibility, Scott has continued to be a strong working force. As a matter of fact, Scott and Celia, his wife, JUST purchased a new home!!! Such an exciting time! A new life and new experiences, new goals and new plans!!! Live here for 20-years, then sell it and retire to Hawaii! Celia, Coral and Chloe (the girls) loved that idea! So much hope and happiness! So much potential!
On Thursday, June 11th, as they were moving boxes into their new home, Scott experienced another seizure, which sent him once again to the ER. That evening, Scott was diagnosed with a brain tumor. On Friday, June 12th, Scott, Celia and their daughters were told that Scott's cancer is inoperable, and he has limited time to spend with his beloved family and friends. We will find out more on Tuesday, including whether or not radiation might help the quality of life and a more specific idea as to the quantity. The doctor has speculated, further tests will cooborate.
Immediately after hearing the news, Scott began planning a bucket list! He is intent on spending the time he has left creating memories that will usher his wife and daughters peacefully through the impending transitions and throughout their lives: Family time, vacations, and the ability to spend his few remaining months with his family and friends, without adding further to the burden on Celia's shoulders.
Friends & Family,
We spent the day with Scott, Celia and the girls yesterday (June 12th), watching Celia as she tried to be the same kind of superhero Scott has been for her, watching the girls trying to smile only to go back to their rooms and cry, watching Scott as he one moment pondered and reached for acceptance and the next, telling Celia and the girls that they would make these final months count!
I know that this diagnosis may be shocking to some of you, let's be honest, it's shocking to all of us - especially to Scott, Celia and the girls. A new home (we are literally moving them in right now), an old home that still needs to be sold, teenaged girls, Scott's business to close out (despite open contracts), day-to-day responsibilities and pressures, medical bills and now, this diagnosis.
Right now, it's time to get this bucket list started!!! Celia - a school teacher - and the girls are on summer break. But more importantly, Scott's motor skills are beginning to get "WONKY", severely wonky.
We need to do this now!
The urgency is there.
Please contribute to Scott Carver's Bucket List Fund! As you do, please leave a comment, share a moment or story about Scott, let this be the uplifting campaign it is meant to be!
But please give.
All our love,
Scotty, Jesse, Patty, Torrey and Tracy
Today Scott "graduated" from Radiation Treatment!
This is quite an exciting time for the Carver family. In addition to completing Radiation, Scott and Celia are considering their first foray into the "Bucket List" adventure. And the timing couldn't be better!
I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with the Carvers on Sunday, and Scott is doing fabulously! Indeed, the treatments are taking their toll, but Scott's famous humor is in full stride! He's making jokes and making plans for this Bucket List Fund!
Let's keep this campaign alive and moving! Because, Folks, Scott's ready to boogie.
As you know, Scott started radiation treatments a short time back; and with just 4 treatments left in the cycle, the Carvers continue striving toward that miracle we're all hoping and praying for!
Please remember to keep posting this Bucket List Fund! In turn, I promise to update everyone, via this campaign page, as Scott's condition allows for him to check some items off his list of to-dos!
Now, without further adieu, a note from Celia:
WE continue to be ever so grateful for all of the support you are giving our family at this difficult time. Scott wants to sit down and share our story and our love for each other. We will hopefully do that soon when he is up for it. He has 4 more radiation treatments them he will be done with radiation. In two months we will have an MRI and know then if the radiation has reduced the brain cancer. We love all of you and hope to visit with you soon.
Love, Celia Carver
Today was another monumental day in The Carvers' journey. Today Scott began outpatient treatment at Grossmont Hospital with his first round of radiation. While it was reported that he suffered from a headache and soreness immediately in the aftermath of the procedure, I hear that he is feeling much better during the hours that have elapsed since returning home from the hospital.
We continue to ask for your positive thoughts, as the family will be moving forward with treatment and can use all the support, hope, love and prayers we have to offer.
Indeed, there have been a number of offers from so many fabulous friends to provide meals and miscellaneous support for the family. For now, the refrigerator is full. However, as the efforts and strain of treatment run their course, your support will be appreciated. Please continue checking in and know that your kindness and your generousity are deeply appreciated by the family and will never be forgotten.
Again, thank you to each and every one who continues to share this gofundme page, offer their support to the family, their kind words, and love! Without your support, this battle would be far more arduous!
As many of you are aware, Celia checked Scott into the hospital last night; he was in excruciating pain.
Today, Scott is resting far more comfortably, and the family hopes to have him back home tomorrow.
A huge incredible fabulous THANK YOU/LOVE YOU/YOU”RE INCREDIBLE goes out to Tracy Fox! You are such a blessing, and such a dear and cherished SISTER to both Celia and Scott! You're an amazing lady!
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. We will continue to update as it is appropriate!
Also, PLEASE continue to share the link! Every dollar contributed to this fund is another kindness, hope and offer of potential to the Carvers!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Scott wants to thank each and every one of you for contributing. We are still in shock and and trying to process everything. We wish we could reply to everyone individually. Scott is very emotional and thankful. We love you all!
The older I get the more I feel like the best adults are the ones that can be responsible, but are still know how to play... I recognized that in Celia when I first met her, so when I first met Scott at Malibu about three years ago, I was skeptical, I wondered... did this guy have that spark to match? Well, it only took a few minutes of parking lot shenanigans with the two of them to see how great Scott is, how fun, true and loving of a man. These two serve as an example to so many... and together they are a really special part of our community :)
One memory with Scott and friends. Motorcycle camping off old highway 8, well Scott drove his truck..lol. It was the ride home when the wind and rain really picked up. Fog set it. I wasn't the most comfortable riding in these conditions but had to ride home. Scott drove next to all of us checking in to make sure we were okay. I had only know Scott for a short period of time on that trip and he treated me like a brother. Best to you and your family. Praying for you! Stay strong Bro!
Hello Friends and Family because of you all ,we embark on our family vacation! We will be in Kauai and then Oahu our favorite "Happy Places". We did not know if we would make it as Scott has had relentless nausea and extreme tiredness. I was waiting until we felt comfortable to travel. We got the green light from our wonderful Oncologist and Scott feels well enough, for the time being to go. It was almost spur of the moment because of Scott's health and trying to figure out my next move in my job.We cannot thank each and everyone of you for your generosity and kind words. We still have a tough battle ahead of us and we will continue to fight. When we return Scott will try another round of chemo as tolerated. If the treatments are too rough on him we will decide on next steps. The GREAT news is as of now there is no new growth and there was a slight reduction in size. Our family thanks you so much for giving us this family time that we will cherish forever . Much Love Scott, Celia
Thinking of your family and just wanted you to know.
I just wanted to check in and let everyone know where we stand. The oncologist suggested that Scott should try another few weeks of Chemo if he can tolerate it. He will start on Monday and we will see how it goes. At this point the oncologist said Scott will not do anymore radiation. We will meet with Doctors this week and see how Scott is doing. Scott is a very strong and dedicated man and he will continue to deal with this battle the way he wants to fight it. A few people have asked us what is the name of this cancer it is called Glioblastoma Multiforme. School is just around the corner and I am going to do what I can to take some time off. I will only get a short period of time that will be covered by pay and benefits. Our next challenge is to piece things together so we can at least retain our medical benefits. Wish us luck with the school district and the human resource department.Once we set this up we can continue on our Bucket List journey.. Once again we couldn't do this without your love and support! XoXo Celia
