Port City Playhouse Capital Campaig

Port City Playhouse is an all volunteer non-profit community theatre based in Fairfax County, Virginia.  Founded in 1977, we launched our first season in 1978 and over the years have produced hundreds of shows in various venues in northern Virginia.  Port City strives to offer quality theatre with diverse themes that appeals to the vibrant communities across the metropolitan Washington DC area.

In late summer 2016, it became apparent that we were going to lose our  rehearsal and performance space due to rising costs and competition willing to pay higher prices.

We have found a new home at Sleepy Hollow United Methodist Church (SHUMC) in Falls Church, Virginia, but there are many modifications that must be done in order to stage more than the most rudimentary productions.

A joint fund-raiser with SHUMC, The Twelve Plays of Christmas, was very well received and got the first step in our process underway, the procurement of a 20' shipping container in which to store our sets and lighting equipment.  We still need to bring in additional power lines, install new lighting infrastructure, sound equipment and build a stage!

We have pledged to SHUMC that we will share 20% of the proceeds of our ticket sales, but to do that, we need to put on some shows.

Pending approval from the publishers, we are planning to stage Taking Sides,  a 1995 play by British playwright Ronald Harwood, about the post-war United States denazification investigation of the German conductor and composer Wilhelm Furtwängler on charges of having served the Nazi regime in April 2017; Fabulation or the Re-Education of Undine by Lynn Nottage in July 2017; and Shakespeare's Hamlet in October 2017.

Won't you help us and the SHUMC family bring the opportunity for live theatre to the Falls Chuch community?  We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and we need your support to get our new home pulled together and ready to let the show begin.  Any level of gift is greatly appreciated and will be acknowledged by letter and in the playbills for our 2017 season.
