Guess which letter gets the least recognition in the LGBTQ movement? (Yep, you're right.)
Of all age groups, which one is the most overlooked? (Right again!)
In both the LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ populations, Old Lesbians seem always to find themselves left with the short end of every stick. In general, old women are most likely to be poor and Old Lesbians even more so (and Old Lesbians of color even more than that). So who puts us first on their list of priorities and who contributes most to our support? WE DO!
Why? Because more than most people, we need each other!
For one thing, nowhere else can we re-charge our energy in the same ways. Often, Old Lesbians with little family or local community support are likely to experience isolation and loneliness and Old Lesbians Organizing for Change becomes a primary social network. Our local chapters, regional groups, and National Gatherings are where we find each other for personal support and community activism. With everything going on these days, the importance of gathering, connecting, and raising our voices is more important than ever!
Old Lesbians Resist and Persist is the timely theme for the August 21-25, 2019 OLOC National Gathering in Columbus, OH. We welcome every Old Lesbian who wishes to attend, and your contribution to our Gofundme campaign will make this accessibility possible. And will be deeply appreciated!
OLOC National Gatherings offer something unique; the opportunity for Old Lesbians to come together for unparalleled days of support, inspiration, resonance, celebration, and most importantly, joy! We ask you to help create this special time for Old Lesbians who have no other way to gather with their peers. Please lend your support to bring Old Lesbians to Columbus.
Thank you, and see you at the end of August!
