Care for Kala

Meet Kala.....she is a five week old husky puppy who was in need of a home. She has big blue eyes and a tail with a white tip. Kala spent one night with us before she began showing signs of being sick. She refused to eat, was getting tired and vomiting up the water she drank.
When we decided to get a puppy our goal was to give a puppy a chance that it might not otherwise get. Unfortunately, Kala became ill. Faced with many decisions, we decided that we must stick with the very mission we originally committed to. Kala has spent 3 nights in the ICU at one of the most equipped vet hospitals in the area. She has had every test imaginable done and still, no official diagnosis has been achieved.
What we do know is that she is struggling to maintain a healthy protein level. She had some intestinal parasites that are robbing her of the ability to absorb protein. As a result, she is beginning to show the effects of low protein. Her blood pressure has dropped to a dangerous level and they are afraid that her body will not rid itself of the parasites before it's too late.
The next step is a plasma transfusion and feeding tube with the hope that this will buy her enough time to fight the parasite and begin to absorb the protein she needs. Of course, the issue is that she could take a turn for the worst at any time. We were able to visit with her this afternoon and she was very playful. She was jumping, licking, and biting us. She looked much better than when we dropped her off. She just needs more time.
We are seeking financial support because we are maxed out. We are at a point where we can't continue care because of the cost. This is not fair to Kala. We have been in contact with the Humane Society of Tampa Bay seeking other low cost options but they are unable to provide the advanced treatment that Kala requires. The Humane Society has been very helpful and assures us that she is currently in one of the best Vet hospitals in the area.
