Ken & Corinne Home Renovations

Donation protected
Ken and Corinne live in Penetanguishene, Ontario and have been married for 30 years.

Several years ago, Corinne was diagnosed with a serious back disability and was house bound.  Her living area was restricted to the main floor of a 100 year old home.  She had to walk with a walker. The main floor was six stairs above the driveway and it was difficult for her to leave the house. She was in intense pain.

In 2014, Ken, who works with people with special needs for the past 20+ yrs was diagnosed with terminal cancer of the stomach.  He has been receiving kemotherapy at the Regional cancer hospital in Barrie. The cancer has been reduced, but it will always been there and his battle will continue.  Although Ken has gone a full year with his cancer and appears to be his old self, he struggles with severe anxiety.  He goes for regular checkups and medication every three weeks. Those visits will continue for the rest of his life.

Corinne has also been diagnosed with diabetes and has also been battling a bad foot infection.  She was admitted to the local Georgian Bay Hospital in Midland. In early June of 2015, Corinne was transferred from Midland to Collingwood and a few days later, her left  foot was amputated below the knee.

The family has been doing as much as they can with some significant home renovations to their 100 year old home. It was in serious disrepair with ceiling tiles falling down, open insulation, no floor tiles or carpet on their well worn sub-floor. They have been walking on the bare sub floor for more than 10 years.

They need to upgrade their bathroom with a suitable shower for Corinne, a new vanity that can accomodate a wheelchair.  A wheel chair ramp will be needed as well as major cost to put the home back in order.  The home renovations will need to include opening of doorways that can accomodate a wheelchair.

They have only their brothers and sisters available to assist them right now as they were never able to have any children of their own.  Corinne had a tubal pregnancy when their were first married and after that was never able to have a family.

Ken has spend about 15 years of his career volunteering with the special olympics in our town of Midland.  He has spent tireless hours coaching the ball hockey team as well as baseball and curling.  The folks with special needs as well as their families have been so thankful for his contributions.

Any and all donations are  welcomed....Even the smallest donation can go a long way to assit this family in rebuilding their home and making this long time dream for them come true.

Thanking you all in advance,
