My name is Jonathan Jimenez. My family and I came to the United States when I was 4 years old. My parents came to this country from Ecuador hseeking a better future for our family. My parents’ dream was that I could fulfill my dreams.
I grew up undocumented and currently have DACA, which has opened the doors for me to go to college, work to pay for my studies, and start BJJ training at Ultimate MMA academy in Queens New York. In moments where I’ve felt hopeless because of my immigration status it has been my family, my involvement in my community, and my training that has given me hope and determination to keep focused on my dreams. I have been training BJJ for a year and half now and every time I train I feel free and challenged to get out of my comfort zone.
My dream is to win the IBJJF Worlds a good BJJ black belt under Prof. Luiz Gustavo which will lead me to fight professionally in MMA in the near future. I also want to train young people in communities like mine so that they may escape their hardships or struggles they face now days. In order to get there, I need to take my practice to the next level by competing in the IBJJF Worlds competition that will take place in Long Beach Calfornia. I have placed second and third in multiple tournaments so I want challenge myself and go to the biggest competition to do the same. Going to the competition is expensive and unfortunately I don’t have the resources to cover all the costs. I was close to giving up on going to the competition, but BJJ has taught me that there is always a way out when you are in a hard situation.
So one of the ways to overcome this challenge is by reaching out to you, my community, and ask for your support. Please join me in helping me make my dream come through by making a donation. All donations will go to my travel, housing and register fee for the event. Any donation will be greatly appreciated.
