On November 6th, I found out that the literal "Pain in my ass" was a Perianal Abscess on my right butt cheek that was painfully affecting my life and work as a freelance landscape gardener and videographer.
I had to get emergency surgery the next day to drain the abscess. All went well and I am healing but will probably not be able to work for the next week and already lost a full week of work.
My medical expenses are covered but because my wife and I are self-employed, we don't get sick days or medical leave. My time not working and my wife's time has put us in a tight spot financially.
3 weeks before the surgery, our only vehicle that we use to get to work, broke down. After spending $1,000 and losing 3 days of work, it broke down again (an hour after it was "fixed" ) and was not worth another $1,000 or so to fix it. I had to give it to a parts guy for free in order not to pay for the expensive towing and disposal fee we have to pay on Maui.
On the day I went to the doctor, we finally bought a reliable vehicle using most of our savings, not knowing of my medical situation. Where we live on Maui, it is almost impossible to get to work or go shopping without a vehicle so we desperately needed transportation.
Unfortunately, with my loss of work, my wife's income can not cover all our bills and rent.
It is very hard for me to ask for help. My wife and I have been through many, many rough and scary times over the past 20 years we have been together but I'm afraid that this is one time that we need to ask for help.
I would like to just cover the work I have and will miss while I am recovering. The estimated cost at this time is $2,500 but might be a bit more. I will need the funds by the end of the month.
Any amount is appreciated and helps. Mahalo Nui Loa.
