TRP Community Food Program

Christmas is seen to be a time of cheer, joy and connection. But for many of our members and the wider recovery community this is simply not the case…for most of us the 1st of December marks the beginning of a 2 month period where anxiety, stress and depression trigger relapses, suicide and extreme isolation.

The Recovery Portal is appealing for support to change this narrative for our most vulnerable community members.

The Recovery Portal Ltd (TRP) is a fully registered non-profit WA organisation that runs two registered charities Women's Recovery Community (WRC, almost 1000 members) and Men's Recovery Community (MRC, newly founded and just over 200 members). These charities provide FREE 24hr/365day online support, in-person support groups and events for people in recovery from trauma, grief, addiction, illness, disability, mental illness, anxiety, depression and the like.

TRP: Community Food Program is holding a WRC: Christmas Exchange Event for its members on the 18th December 2018, where all registered members will receive a hamper of food/gifts for their families. The day is also a free swap meet style event where new and immaculate quality gifts, clothes and personal care items are available for the attendees. The event is fully catered and will also be a time for all women in recovery to connect with fellow members in a safe and supportive atmosphere.

The newly formed Men’s Recovery Community will also have access to hampers of food and gifts which will be delivered the week prior to Christmas.

TRP: Community Food Program is piloting its “Rural Community Support Program” in Chidlow. The pilot program has three main areas of support;

1. Community Pantry, in partnership with the Chidlow Primary School TRP is installing a community pantry in front of the science building for the free exchange of non-perishable food and goods for all. This will be installed and ready for use in the next few weeks…

 2. TRP Weekly Food Packs, in partnership with The Bay Tree café TRP will be supplying free bread/milk packs for vulnerable community members to access at the café every Friday. This program commences this Friday 30th November.

 3. Chidlow Christmas Hampers, free for vulnerable residents of the Chidlow Community delivered discretely to their residence on the 22nd December. The hampers will contain food and gifts to ensure that the communities most vulnerable residents share the joy of Christmas.

Whilst many established agencies and organisations offer support around Christmas time the reality is accessing these services and the logistics of being able to receive this support is often adding to the anxiety and stress of this period when people don’t have credit for their phones or access to transport.
