Woman to Woman

The infant mortality rate in Basra, Iraq is some of the highest in the world. After so much war, so very many families are displaced and living in poverty with no access to medical care. Expectant mothers in this city have no pre-natal or post-natal care or even general maternal support that could greatly help them and their babies survive in these harsh conditions.

The plight of these women has touched the hearts of Barbara Barrington Jones and Baroness Nicholson of the British Parliament and a plan was formed to build a Maternity and Mother Child Health Unit in Basra, Iraq. This facility will provide birthing facilities for up to 6 mothers at a time and a clinic that will provide pre-natal and post-natal support.

After a strong spiritual experience, Barbara feels strongly that this medical unit needs to be given to the women of Iraq from women here and around the world, and so the fund raising project was given the name “Woman to Woman”. With every donation, whether large or small, the name of the donor will be engraved on the front doors of the center, so that as women come and go from the center, they will know how much they are loved.

The Barbara Barrington Jones Family Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, will match all donations dollar for dollar.

The facility is almost done! We just need to raise this last little bit to finish it and begin helping our sisters and their babies in Iraq.
