Pastor Fred Mast Heart Surgery Fund

Fred is the pastor of Sedona United Methodist Church in Sedona, AZ and has been a pastor in the Desert Southwest Conference of the United Methodist Church for the past 5 years.  Prior to his appointment at Sedona UMC, Fred was the pastor at Sunrise UMC in north Phoenix for 4 years. Prior to formally entering the ministry, Fred was a member for over 15 years at Dove of the Desert UMC in Glendale where he held many positions both voluntary and staff and was involved in youth ministry, organizing events, landscaping the church, committee member, welcoming coordinator, and leading and assisting Sunday worship. But no matter how much he volunteered in the church it wasn't enough. Fred felt the call to serve God for many years, and while he was a member of Dove of the Desert was called to embark on the journey of going to seminary school to answer this call. Over a ten year period while Fred worked multiple jobs full time to support his family, Fred would drive weekly to Claremont School of Theology in Claremont California, leaving Phoenix Tuesday morning at 2am, driving almost 400 miles, and sleeping in his car in the school parking lot. Fred would attend classes Tuesday and Wednesday and then drive back to Phoenix Wednesday night where he would return to work and support his family while juggling his schooling.  Fred has poured his heart and soul into the ministry and has committed his life's work to trying to bring as many people as he can to Christ. 

A number of weeks ago Fred was given an EKG during his annual physical and was referred to a cardiologist due to abnormal results of this test. After a stress test it was determined that Fred had experienced a prior minor heart attack. They proceeded to perform an angiogram and determined that Fred needs to have open heart (bypass) surgery within the next 2 to 3 weeks.

Prior to these events, Fred was very active in the Sedona community where his love of his church activities kept him very busy, as well as in the Phoenix community where he spends part of his week at his Phoenix residence of 24 years with his wife of 32 years Jenny and 15 year old son Matthew who attends high school in the area. Fred enjoys spending time with his other children Michael (25 years old) and Megan (23 years old) as well as other members of his family who live in Phoenix as well.  

Fred is not accustomed to asking for help and this goFundMe account is set up for him and Jenny by the family as we know the financial difficulty this will present for them. The goal of this account is to raise funds to assist the family in paying for their portion of the extensive medical bills associated with this surgery. Any amount in excess of the goal of $7,500 will be donated by the family to the American Heart Association.
