2018 has not been the best year for my parents. They’ve been through tough times before, but this is the hardest.

In February 2018, my mother was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. Due to this and her treatment plan she's unable to continue working. For the last 10 plus years, she has been self-employed where she relies on my step-father's health benefits. This would be fine as she could go on some type of assistance for income and his. Things unfortunately got much worse. On 4/13/18, while returning from work, my step-father was in a life-threatening car accident. We're not entirely sure what the cause was, but it appeared he suffered a stroke. When this occurred lost control and his car went off road and he struck a pole around 55-60mph and it totaled his car. Thankfully there was someone behind him that immediately rushed to his aid and called for medical care. After emergency response used the Jaws of Life to remove him from his vehicle, he was life-flighted away to the hospital.

As of now it looks like every bone in his body (except right arm and neck) were broken. Injuries include: fractured back, multiple ribs broken, both legs broken in multiple places, hips, arm, and shoulder. He has been under heavy sedation in the SICU and hasn't regained full consciousness yet. He'll doze in and out due to the pain medication but has been getting better day-by-day. He's hooked up to breathing tubes and is receiving blood daily. His blood pressure and heart rate have both been inconsistent since the injury. With each passing day comes a new test and/or operation. He’s a strong person will come out of this on top.

We're waiting and hoping he'll be able to go on some type of disability or something of the sort through work hopefully soon. We're not sure how long he'll be out of work or if he'll be able to work again. Due to this unfortunate event, it has and will cause not only emotional stress, but a financial strain on my parents. We're not sure how long it'll take before his disability will kick in and how much longer my mother will be able to work or what will happen with their health care. All I'm asking is for some assistance for my parents to help take the financial stress out of their lives for now so we can all focus on my step-dad’s recovery and my mother's as well. My step-father and mother are the two strongest people that I know. My parents are not the type to ask for anything, but I will do anything to help them out. Anything will help and it'll be much appreciated. I will keep everyone updated on their status as time goes on. Thank you all for your time and support. God bless.

Update on Bob: He is still in ICU but getting a little better everyday.  All broken bones have been operated on except his back.  We're hoping that will be done soon,  He is off the vintilator and is breathing on  his own.  He still has a long way to go.  He smiles most days now and still has his sense of humor.  Please keep him in your prayers and thank you all for your support.

Update on Barb: chemo and radiation are ongoing and it’s taking its toll on her. She’s trying to keep a positive attitude. Some days are tougher than others. She’s over halfway thru her first round and will get a short break before her second round. Please keep her in your prayers also. Thank you.
